where local meets global

Pick and Choose

“I heard of Steve’s death with great sadness.  I have  lived in Brentford since 1985, and Steve seemed a permanent fixture, he was one of the first people to say hullo whenever I passed him in the street.

Our paths then crossed professionally through his role at the Council and mine at Hounslow Chamber of Commerce, now known as West London Chambers.  Over the years the relationship between the Chamber and the Council developed, especially in the years of Steve’s leadership.  Initially we classed ourselves as a critical friend, working on the Blenheim Centre. We then began to know Steve better.   I will remember him for being the driving force behind many of the developments across the borough.  He instigated the Regeneration Conference, which is now an annual event.  His commitment during the dark days of the pandemic was inspiring and his willingness to engage with the Chamber and the business community.  He did not hide away.

Under his leadership, Hounslow was awarded the Council of the Year in the Local Government Chronicle Awards and we were proud to be part of that application.  There are a number of plaques around the borough featuring his name – he will be missed but remembered.” – Sally Smith, COO, West London Chambers

“On behalf of the Chambers office team, board and members, we would like to pay tribute to the transformational work Steve has delivered to our borough. He will be sorely missed by many, but his name will continue to live on all around our borough. God Bless you” – Alan Rides – CEO West London Chambers

Supporting businesses in west London

Considering our population compared with China, USA, India and Japan we do well and should be proud that the UK is:

#2: largest economy in Europe
#3: foreign direct investment destination
#5: largest exporter of goods and services
#6: largest economy globally
#8: largest manufacturing nation

London is the largest economy in Europe and is 25% of the total UK economy. After the financial area in Central London, West London Chambers of Commerce represents the second largest GDP. Via our West London airport of Heathrow $450bn of trade flows, making it the biggest port in the UK by value.
